Tucker Aeschliman

My name is Tucker Aeschliman, OTS, and I am originally from Taylor, MO. Currently, I reside in West Des Moines as a second-year occupational therapy student at Des Moines University. As an aspiring pediatric occupational therapist, by volunteering at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines and other surrounding places in the community continues to inspire and guide my aspirations towards my passion of helping small hands do big things. In 2023 I graduated from Clarke University with Bachelor of Science in Health, Wellness, & Behavioral Sciences with a minor in biology. Throughout my duration Clarke University, I maintained numerous roles and responsibilities on campus such as a resident assistant, president of the Clarke University's Scholar Program, a member of the lacrosse team, and many more. I first wanted to work in healthcare after volunteering in a cardiac rehabilitation department at my local hospital. This expeirence consisted of rapport building, assisting in exercises, and learning about various patients that were seeking medical assistance. It was after my first day of volunteering when I realized that my small role made a huge impact in someone's life. Through my experience of helping cardiac patients, I have driven myself to help others and help those that are in need. After the fall semester of my senior year at Clarke University was when I realized that my passion for occupational therapy and pediatrics began to open new avenues. After completing my first year of the occupational therapy doctoral program at Des Moines University, I have found that I want to become a pediatric hand therapist. Occupational therapy is my way to make a living, but helping others is my way of life.
