Invitation from the Chair

On behalf of the 2026 ASHT Annual Meeting Committee, it is my pleasure to extend a warm invitation to our 49th Annual Meeting—held for the first time in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This year’s theme, “Bridging the Gap: Collaborating and Amplifying Our Voices,” reflects our continued commitment to sustaining and advancing our profession. Together, we will explore how the small, intentional actions we take each day can create meaningful impact for both our field and the patients we serve. We will challenge ourselves to pursue excellence in care while identifying practical and attainable ways to elevate the visibility of our vital work.

Our program promises to be both dynamic and comprehensive, beginning with our third annual Pediatric Specialty Day, thoughtfully developed by co-chairs Jemerie Hopkins, MSOT, CHT, and Karen Ayala, MSOT, CHT. This day will feature an exciting keynote address by Isabelle Renard-Fontaine, a world-renowned specialist in neuromodulation for pediatric upper extremity conditions.

The Annual Meeting will follow, showcasing an exceptional breadth of high-quality content. We are grateful to all who contributed submissions, helping to shape a rich and engaging program. Highlights include interactive Pre-Conference Institutes, more than 40 concurrent instructional sessions, clinical posters, cutting-edge scientific presentations and impactful plenary sessions. Our exhibit hall will also feature the latest innovations in hand and upper extremity therapy, including virtual reality platforms, orthotic and prosthetic solutions, documentation tools and more.

Our plenary sessions are designed to inspire both excellence and advocacy. The opening panel — featuring passionate hand therapists and surgeons — will explore how attention to the “small things” can drive optimal outcomes in flexor tendon injuries. International perspectives on the management of hypermobility disorders will be shared by Dr. Marta Jokeil. Finally, our Presidential Invited Lecture will highlight the power of community impact, with Mr. Will Allen illustrating how small actions can lead to transformative change and encouraging us to consider how we, as therapists, can continue to move our specialty forward.

I look forward to connecting with colleagues and experiencing the vibrant community of Milwaukee. The meeting will take place in the South Building of the Baird Center, conveniently located in downtown Milwaukee and directly across from our host hotel, the Hilton Milwaukee. While in the city, I encourage you to explore the lakefront, attend a local festival, enjoy a brewery tour or experience the city’s renowned culinary scene. I hope to see you in Milwaukee.
