Sara Brito, PhD, MOT, MEd, Bsc, CHT
Sara Brito is an Associate Professor at Eastern Kentucky University. She has previously worked as a lecturer of Occupational Therapy at Federation University (Rural Victoria, Australia) and Monash University (Melbourne, Australia). Sara completed her professional qualification in occupational therapy at Curtin University (Australia).
Sara maintains qualifications as an occupational therapist and hand therapist here (in the U.S.) and in her second home, Australia. Her clinical experience is in general and upper limb rehabilitation and has worked in both hospital and private therapy settings. While living in Australia she worked in Canberra and Melbourne. Since repatriating to the U.S., she has worked at Riley Children’s Hospital (Indianapolis).
Sara’s doctoral studies provided a more nuanced understand of recovery and participation following brachial plexus injury from a psychosocial and occupational perspective. Sara has also had the opportunity to work on a range of research teams exploring population health, culturally and linguistically diverse allied health student education, and training rural health professionals to address workforce shortages in rural areas. Sara is an early career researcher that is interested in understanding and addressing rural health disparities and optimizing health through meaningful participation in daily life.
