Karl Dischinger

Hello, my name is Karl Dischinger, OTD, OTR/L, and occupational therapist at Southview Acres Health Care Center and OT graduate student researcher associated with the University of Minnesota. My interest in occupational therapy began in an outpatient clinic following an accident I had while training for an Ironman triathlon. It was through the holistic and evidence-based approach to my care from the OTs that worked with me that I decided to embark on a 10-year plan to change my career and become an OT myself. I entered college as a returning-adult freshman and continued through a doctoral OT program at the University of Minnesota, and developed an interest in hand therapy and research. In the summer of 2023 I had the privilege of participating in a capstone research project guided by Dr. Corey McGee, PhD, MS, OTR/L, CHT, where I explored the the research process and studied the psychometrics of several measures used in the evaluation of the hands of persons with osteoarthritis. The experience helped me develop a passion and purpose for my career in OT. I look forward to further opportunities to explore, learn, and educate.
