Christopher Dy, MD, MPH
Dr. Dy (dee) is a board-certified orthopedic hand surgeon with subspecialty expertise in brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injury. He graduated from the combined BS/MD program at the University of Miami, where he also obtained an MPH degree. Dr. Dy completed his orthopedic surgery residency and postdoctoral research fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and a fellowship in hand surgery at Washington University Orthopedics. He has received additional training in brachial plexus and peripheral nerve surgeries at leading centers in India, China, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Sweden, and Brazil.
Dr. Dy is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine with a secondary appointment in the Division of Public Health Sciences. He is also director of the Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship at Washington University Orthopedics.
Dr. Dy’s research program has two main areas of focus: (1) improving delivery of care for patients with brachial plexus injuries and (2) addressing disparities in access to orthopedic care. He has research funding from the National Institutes of Health (active R01 and R03 grants; former K23 Career Development Award), Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation, American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand, and other sources. Dr. Dy was the 2019 ASSH Richard H. Gelberman Scholar and the 2023 recipient of the Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award, presented by the AAOS and ORS for orthopaedic research that is of high significance and impact. He has published >150 peer-reviewed articles and co-edited the textbooks ASSH Surgical Anatomy: Nerve Reconstruction (2017) and Peripheral Nerve Issues after Orthopedic Surgery (2022). Dr. Dy co-hosts “The Upper Hand: Chuck and Chris Talk Hand Surgery” podcast, which has >3000 downloads each week. Dr. Dy is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
