Virgil Mathiowetz, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA
Virgil received his BS degree in OT at U of Minnesota in 1974. He worked six years as an Occupational Therapist in adult physical disabilities at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN and at University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He earned his MS in OT at Boston University in 1981and then began his academic career at U of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 1981-85. His early research on the measurement of hand strength and dexterity was started there. He accepted an occupational therapy faculty position at the College of St. Catherine, 1985-96, while pursuing his doctorate in Kinesiology (motor behavior) at U of Minnesota from 1986-1991. He completed his academic career at the University of Minnesota from 1996-2019. His research interest changed to the management of fatigue in persons with multiple sclerosis and the OT Task-Oriented Approach for persons post-stroke.
