Sandra Schmieg, OTR, CHT

Sandra is a pediatric occupational therapist and certified hand therapist with over 25 years’ experience in outpatient, inpatient, and community-based settings. She has an undergraduate degree in early childhood development and education and has been working exclusively in pediatrics for the duration of her career. She has presented regionally on hand therapy assessment and intervention for children with congenital hand differences. She has co-authored book chapters and peer reviewed articles on syndactyly, radial polydactyly, and brachial plexus birth injury. She currently works at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and collaborates with orthopedic surgeons in a multi-disciplinary hand and brachial plexus clinic. She serves as a clinical mentor and is active in program development to grow pediatric hand therapy at her institution. She recently participated in a surgical mission trip to Honduras with a pediatric hand and upper extremity team where she was involved in intra-operative orthotic fabrication, post-operative teaching regarding pediatric hand therapy protocols and orthotic and adaptive equipment intervention.
