Nancy Cannon, OTR, CHT

Nancy Cannon has been committed to providing the highest quality of patient care for over 45 years.  She joined the Hand Rehabilitation Center of Indiana, a division of the Indiana Hand Center, in 1978.  She went on to serve as its Director for 35 years (1982–2017), shaping one of the country's preeminent upper extremity practices.
A Charter Active Member of the American Society of Hand Therapists, she served as ASHT President in 1989 and held nearly every leadership role within the organization over the course of her career. Her service extended across other professional organizations within hand therapy, including the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC),(1989-current) and the American Hand Therapy Foundation (AHTF) (President, 2004–2007).  In addition, she takes great pride in serving on ASHT's L-Codes Task Force.
Nancy is widely published, with book chapters in Rehabilitation of the Hand: Surgery and Therapy, co-authored work in Hand Clinics of North America, multiple Journal of Hand Therapy articles, and five editions of the Diagnosis and Treatment Manual for Physicians and Therapists. In large part, she wrote the five editions of the manual.  In addition, she has lectured around the country for decades on an extensive number of subjects.  She is particularly passionate about her work with flexor tendon repairs.  She has dedicated the past four decades studying this area of surgery and rehabilitation.  She played an integral role in establishing & updating the Indiana approach to flexor tendon rehabilitation through the years.  As a strong advocate for quality medical education, she established “Hand Care” in 1984, a meeting which continues to educate hand therapists throughout the country.  
Her professional contributions have been recognized with the Nathalie Barr Lectureship Award (1992), the ASHT Lifetime Member Award (2009), the ASHT Presidential Award (2010), and the Dorothy B. Kaufmann Lectureship (2013).
