Jose Lucio

Jose Xavier Lucio, MOT, OTR/L, CHT, Certified Hand Therapist and Burn Occupational Therapist at University of Utah Health, has more than 20 years of experience specializing in upper extremity rehabilitation, burn care, trauma, and hand therapy. He currently practices at the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he provides both inpatient and outpatient care for patients with complex burn, trauma, and upper extremity conditions. Xavier earned his Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of North Dakota and has dedicated his career to advancing evidence-based rehabilitation for individuals recovering from burn injuries and hand trauma. He became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2023 and holds occupational therapy licensure in Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Colorado. In addition to his clinical practice, Xavier serves as a fieldwork educator, mentor, and instructor for occupational therapy students and healthcare professionals. He has presented educational lectures on burn rehabilitation and hand therapy through university programs, professional associations, and continuing education events. He currently serves on the American Burn Association Rehabilitation Committee and is an active member of the American Society of Hand Therapists and the American Burn Association. Xavier’s professional interests include burn rehabilitation, edema management, orthotic fabrication, scar management, upper extremity trauma, and functional recovery following complex injuries. He has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and national presentations addressing burn rehabilitation outcomes, hand edema management, serial casting, and exercise prescription after burn injury. Through his clinical expertise, research involvement, teaching, and mentorship, Xavier remains committed to improving patient outcomes and advancing the practice of hand and burn rehabilitation.
