Jonathan Isaacs

Jonathan Isaacs is the Herman and Vera Nachman Distinguished Research Professor and Chief of the Division of Hand Surgery, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (with co-academic appointments in Plastic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering), within the Virginia Commonwealth University. Having completed both medical school and Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at VCU, Dr. Isaacs obtained additional training in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at Duke University Medical Center before joining the VCU faculty in 2002. He is active in local, regional, and national level instructional courses, has written multiple chapters, review articles, and scientific manuscripts, and edited textbooks. Notably, he was the nerve editor for Hand.e, an Associate Editor for HAND, and is on the editorial boards for the Journal of Hand Surgery, Orthoplastic Surgery, and Handthology. As an innovator and researcher, Dr. Isaacs was named to the National Academy of Inventors VCU Chapter, honored with the 2022 Billy R. Martin Innovation Award as the VCU Innovator of the Year, and most recently received the inaugural 2026 VCU Research and Innovation “Excellence in Research Award for Optimizing Health”.
