Blayne Townsend, OTR, OTD
Blayne Townsend, OTR/L, OTD is an occupational therapist who graduated from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in May 2025. He currently practices at Commonwealth Hand and Physical Therapy in Lexington, KY.
Blayne entered OT school with the intention of specializing in hand therapy. After graduating, he immediately began pursuing that goal with the ambition of becoming a Certified Hand Therapist. During his time at Texas Tech, his passion for hand therapy deepened—especially while serving as a teaching assistant for Human Anatomy over two semesters, where he had the opportunity to explore the remarkably intricate design of the hand.
At the TTUHSC Institute of Anatomical Science, Blayne developed his doctoral capstone project, The Helping Hand, creating anatomical review videos focused on the pathoanatomy of various diagnoses involving the hand and upper extremity. These resources were designed to support OT, PT, and students of other health professions in gaining a deeper understanding of this complex region of the body.
Now living in Kentucky with his fiancée, Blayne feels fortunate to fulfill his higher calling by serving others, restoring the function of the divine gift that is the hand, and striving each day to make the world a better place.
